You bet they do.
A certain amount of stress can help kids feel alert and energised.
Too much stress can make kids unhappy and can interfere with their ability to cope with everyday situations. Signs of increased stress include: headaches and stomach aches; increased irritability, sadness, panic, anger, anxiety; listlessness or withdrawing from others; overreacting to minor problems or increased risk taking; trouble eating, sleeping and relaxing; and increased dependency.

Help your child understand the connection between how their bodies feel and the emotions they are experiencing. Talking to parents and supportive friends about what kids are experiencing is a very important tool. Modeling stress-management strategies is important to help kids learn by example. Let them witness you, the parent or teacher, taking deep breaths, talking out problems, and using humour to relieve tense moments. And don’t forget the importance of exercise to reduce stress.
